Meter specialist DK-Technologies is showing a new handheld meter, the Compact Audio Loudness Meter (CALM).
Actually there is a pair of compact meters, one for stereo (DK1) and one for 5.1 multichannel surround (DK2). Both have the same form factor, similar to an iPhone and they can be upgraded via software.
The DK1 is compatible with BBC, DIN, ABC, DMU and DFS, LU, LKFS, LUFS scales.
For both units, loudness specs are ITU-R BS.1770/71, EBU R128 and ATSC A/85. Both also offer a phase meter as well.
DK-Technologies Director of Sales and Marketing Richard Kelley said: “In light of the recent CALM legislation in the U.S., and the latest ITU and EBU recommendations regarding audio loudness in Europe, broadcasters have been crying out for cost-effective and easy-to-use metering technology that helps them keep within guidelines.”
