Edirol Updates Interface Line, Debuts Computer Speaker System

Edirol Corp. updated its USB MIDI interface line with three models: the UM-1EX, UM-2EX and UM-3EX. The company says the UM-3EX 3-in/3-out MIDI interface is the most original, as it features a USB hub that allows for the connection of two additional UM-3EXs for a total of up to 9-in/9-out. Three UM-3EXs can be rack mounted on an optional Roland RAF-70 rack adaptor.
The UM-2EX replaces Edirol’s UM-1SX and adds a MIDI out port for a 1-in/2-out configuration. The UM-1EX replaces the UM-1X and adds a MIDI Thru switch that allows the UM-1EX to be used as a standalone MIDI cable or route MIDI back to an instrument or other external MIDI device.
The interfaces will be available toward the end of the year.
Additionally, Edirol debuted the UA-1EX USB audio interface and MA-1EX USB-powered speaker system for mobile computer users. The company says UA-1EX is the latest version of its UA-1 series, and the MA-1EX is designed for users that need better sound and more power than their computer speakers can provide.
The UA-1EX continues to feature Core Audio support for Mac OSX and WDM support for Windows 2000/XP, as well as zero-latency direct monitoring. Inputs include RCA pin, input for plug-in powered electret condenser type stereo microphones and SPDIF optical input. Outputs include RCA pin, 1/8-inch headphone jack and SPDIF optical output.
MA-1EX features a bass enhancer, 1/8-inch headphone jack and SPDIF output. An integrated USB cord wrap also is provided for portable cable management.
The MA-1EX system and UA-1EX interface will be available toward the end of the year.
