The commission has determined procedures for upcoming Auction 84.
The auction of AM construction permits is significant because it’s another step the agency needs to take as it turns its attention towards AM revitalization. As we’ve reported, some engineering consulting firms have suggested the FCC needs to reduce, not increase, the number of signals on the senior band.
Slated to begin on May 6, the auction of 22 commercial AM construction permits will resolve groups of applicants that are competing against each other for the same CPs. There are 22 such groups listed on “Attachment A” with established minimum opening bids ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. That highest price CP is in Culver City, Calif. Upfront payments are due to the FCC by 6 p.m. Eastern on April 7.
The auction is “closed,” meaning it’s only for those who previously submitted short-form applications in 2003.
The agency will hold an online auction tutorial on Feb. 19.
