Genachowski Resigns FCC

Confirms plan

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski confirmed his plan to resign.

He officially made the announcement in a staff meeting this morning with FCC staffers.

NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith issued an immediate comment: “NAB salutes Chairman Genachowski for his years of service at the FCC. The FCC chair is arguably one of the most difficult jobs in Washington, and yet Julius consistently performed with dedication and focus. We may have disagreed on occasion, but America’s broadcasters wish him well in his journeys ahead.”

Genachowski is a Democratic appointee to the five-person panel. The news comes on the heels of Republican Robert McDowell saying he will leave as well.

The Washington Post reported recently that the White House has been interviewing candidates for the FCC chair.
