You already know from Radio World news coverage that new FCC cybersecurity rules for the Emergency Alert System will take effect on Sept. 29 and that your station will need to be compliance.
Now the National Association and the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations have announced a free webinar for Tuesday, Sept. 1, to help stations understand the requirements and how to prepare for compliance.
“The new rules include requirements for 15-character passwords, firewalls, network segmentation and prompt installation of security patches and updates,” they noted in the announcement.
“Determining how to implement the new safeguards may be complex and costly for some stations.”
The webinar will feature Wayne Pecena, of Texas A&M University, who is associate director of engineering for KAMU(TV/FM); Ed Czarnecki, vice president of global and government affairs for Digital Alert Systems; and Harold Price, president of Sage Alerting Systems.
The webinar will be moderated by Dave Arland, executive director of the Indiana Broadcasters Association, and David Donovan, president of the New York State Broadcasters Association.
