Introduce a Girl to Engineering

Introduce a Girl to Engineering

Girl Day is coming.
The National Engineers Week Foundation promotes an annual “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,” which is scheduled for Feb. 25, part of Engineers Week.
Girl Day, as it is known in the industry, was created in 2001 as a way to increase interest in engineering among girls and young women. The organization said 10 percent of U.S. engineers are women.
Last year, Girl Day went international, with outreach to girls in Canada, Columbia, Egypt, India, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. Translations are part of the IEEE Women in Engineering international project and will be posted on the Engineers Week Web site.
Founders have published an information kit that introduces engineering to students and teachers in grades 3-12. It is available at the EWeek web site.
Engineers Week also is sponsoring “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Goes to the Movies,” a campaign whereby local organizations can advertise their activities in movie theaters.
