Philips to Cut 30% of Atlanta Staff

Philips Consumer Electronics North America is trimming its Atlanta-based staff by 30%. The Atlanta-Constitution-Journal quotes a Philips official as saying the roughly 113 jobs lost out of 375 total will be at all levels and in all functions.
Philips told analysts earlier this month it planned to reduce operating costs of its global consumer electronics business by about 20% by 2005, according to the company Website. The consumer electronics unit is part of Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics.
Philips semiconductor division, making chips for HD Radio receivers, is not part of the changes, according to the company.
