Pirate Fined $10,000

The FCC fined Louis Gentile $10,000 for operating a radio station in Philadelphia without a license.
After receiving a complaint, the agency’s field office in the area monitored 107.7 MHz and using direction-finding technology, determined where the studio was. The field office sent a warning letter to Gentile in 2004 and said it received no reply. Later, during an interview with field agents, Gentile admitted running a station without a commission license. Yet when the agency issued a Notice of Apparent Liability for $10,000, Gentile denied running a station without a license, stated the commission.
The FCC said its agents saw an antenna on the roof of Gentile’s house and a cable leading from that antenna to the basement.
