Appearing before a subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee Thursday, FCC Chairman Michael Powell backed up the commission’s request for $248.5 million for fiscal 2002. This is $18.5 million over last year’s appropriation. The money would be used to fund the agency’s reform efforts, upgrade its computers and beef up its technical and other staff.
