WorldCast Systems is among the recipients of the first Excellence in Sustainability Awards given at the NAB Show. It won in the “small organization” category for its SmartFM technology.
The award program is supported by Amazon Web Services. It recognizes “individuals, organizations and products or services for innovations in media technology that promote conservation and reusability of natural resources and foster economic and social development.”
WorldCast describes its SmartFM technology as a sophisticated AI-based algorithm for transmitters that can enable broadcasters to reduce energy costs by up to 40% without impairing audio quality and coverage. By optimizing power consumption, WorldCast says, less energy is used in transmission, leading to cooler running temperatures and thus lower cooling bills, as well as less wear on the transmitter.
Uplink Network GmbH in Germany is a major user of SmartFM, as we’ve reported. The NAB has posted videos of the program nominees.
Chris Brähler of SDVI and Larry O’Connor of Other World Computing were honored as individual sustainability champions. Organizations saluted for leadership were Mrs. Greenfilm, Amino, Media.Monks and Greening of Streaming.
Product or service awards went to Appear’s X Platform and Harmonic’s CableOS Broadcast Platform, in addition to WorldCast’s SmartFM. And honorable mentions went to Barco, Broadpeak, EVS, IBM, Immersion Room and Varnish Software.
