Inovonics announced a firmware upgrade for its 677 EAS Triple Tuner that it bills as flexibility for future, software-based EAS implementations.
Firmware revision 1.1.0.0 provides three simultaneous audio streams that “could be ingested by software-based EAS,” Inovonics said. The 677 continues to support DASDEC and Sage EAS hardware.
Ben Barber, Inovonics’ president and CEO, said the update was partly intended to reassure customers that its 677 monitor receiver will function regardless of EAS modality. Radio World has chronicled the current hardware vs. software-based EAS debate.

The tuner was designed primarily for the reception of EAS Local Primary stations.
The receiver has built-in discrete, frequency-agile tuners, each one programmable for AM, FM or NOAA reception. It also has off-air antenna inputs and balanced monaural XLR outputs.
The 1.1.0.0 firmware update is free and available for download.
