Thomson Broadcast announced a new APS RF synthesizer for its analog and DRM shortwave transmitters.
The synthesizer has an adaptive precorrection stage for compensating for weaknesses in the broadcast chain. It will also adjust for differences between antennas in multiple antenna arrays.
An additional feature is ripple compensation that Thomson says will result in passband ripple of less than 0.1 dB. Overall, according to Thomson, analog users should see improvements in linearity and frequency response. Digital broadcasters should see better MER and spectral purity.
Thomson Broadcast Managing Director Josef Troxler stated: “The APS system is a new development for our high-power shortwave transmitter business … Now our customers can upgrade their existing transmitters with adaptive precorrection to get the best signal quality and yield even better function.”
