Federated Wireless, Alphabet Demonstrate Interactivity in 3.5 GHz Band

MOUNTAINVIEW, Calif. � The telecommunication industry�s access to 3.5 GHz spectrum has gained momentum. Google parent company Alphabet andFederated Wirelesssay they have successfully demonstrated interoperability between their respective spectrum access systems, according torcrwireless.com.

�…Spectrum Access Systems (SAS) exchange information as required by the FCC Report and Order 15-47 in order to facilitate access to the band byCitizen�s Broadband Radio ServiceDevices (CBSDs) connected to other SASs, coordinate operations between and among such CBSDs, provide a stable radio frequency environment for Priority Access License (PAL) licensees, and other functions required for orderly spectrum administration and the fulfillment by the SAS of the responsibilities given it under Part 96,� according to theWireless Innovation Forum.

According to Federated Wireless, validation of the SAS to SAS communications systems means that the 3.5 GHz spectrum could potentially support high data rate access for mobile devices on LTE networks.

Federated Wireless recently announced it had set up a test bed in Norfolk, Va., to demonstrate and verify its Environmental Sensing Capability, which it claims �can unlock the value of shared spectrum in major metropolitan areas,� according to the same article. Federated said the ESC platform is designed to increase available spectrum in coastal areas while providing �prioritized, interference-free use by incumbent federal users.�
