New DAB+ Mux for Vienna To Be Turned Up

A new DAB+ multiplex, carrying 14 stations, will be turned on

VIENNAA week from Thursday, a new DAB+ multiplex, carrying 14 stations, will be turned up for Vienna.

4 of the 14 are already on FM in Vienna: Radio Arabella, Radio NRJ, Lounge FM and Radio Stephansdom. One newcomer to be launched is Radio pilot, a radio station of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum. The ten new programs exclusive to DAB+ will thus expand the range of programs in Austria, including a young, Christian music format along with scientific and technical documentary channels.

Digital Radio Austria is an organization dedicated to further developing the medium of radio, with support from the Association of the electrical and electronics industries, research institutions, private radio operators, manufacturers and dealers, according to radioszene.de. DRA members have set themselves the goal of establishing digital radio in Austria.

“Radio requires a dedicated, cost-effective, terrestrial-digital distribution channel. Only thus can it exist as an independent medium, long-term. A mere shift of radio to the Internet is not an option…” said Wolfgang Struber, deputy chairman of the DRA.
