Cyclone Evan Destroys Radio Stations in Samoa, Fiji

Some stations still down after December storm

High winds from Cyclone Evan knocked the FM repeater stations off the air in Samoa and Fiji in mid-December.

The storm first struck Samoa, then hit the island nation of Fiji as a category 4 hurricane with winds in excess of 170 miles per hour. In addition to leaving residents without basic amenities, the storm destroyed radio broadcast towers, computer programming equipment and transmitters, resulting in more than $45,000 in damage, and two repeaters are still off the air on the island.

HCJB Global is currently accepting donations online to help repair the damaged stations.
