A well-known DJ, announcer, VO artist and production wiz, WABC(AM)’s Johnny Donovan is retiring.
He’s been with the station for 43 years in various guises, working as a DJ when the station had a pop music format and transitioning as a staff announcer when it moved to talk radio. He was also the station’s long-time production director.
Donovan started as a DJ in 1963 at WHVW(AM) in Hyde Park, N.Y. He also worked at WBAZ(AM), Kingston, N.Y., WENE(AM), Binghamton, N.Y. and WMID(AM), Atlantic City, N.J. before hitting the Big Apple at WOR(FM). At a young age he got a ham license, K2KOQ for an amateur radio station in his basement.
In addition, Donovan has voiced other programming and will continue as announcer for “The Rush Limbaugh Show” and also maintain his voice over business.
