Another AM station has been donated to the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council.
Just before Christmas, Entercom Communications Corp. said it has donated KWOD in Salem, Ore., to the MMTC. The signal is heard on 1390 kHz and has 5 kW power by day.
The council promotes diversity in broadcast station ownership; it has been the recipient of several such donations in recent years, including at least seven stations from Clear Channel. It uses the donated stations “to train minorities and women in broadcast operations, sales, management and ownership and (enable) them to purchase the stations at a discount from their market values.”
MMTC founded a media and telecom brokerage in 1997. Since then, it says, “it has helped hundreds of interested parties and new entrants with conducting business planning and due diligence and helping new entrants build their professional and financial networks.”
The announcement was made by MMTC President David Honig and Entercom President and CEO David Field.
