Broadcast and streaming topics for this year’s Audio Engineering Society show reflect trends like “Broadcasting During Disasters” and the future of sound for 4K video.
Chairman of the broadcast and streaming sessions is Dave Bialik, who’s project manager for streaming operations for CBS Radio in New York City. “We’re taking key issues and technologies and looking at them closely, but in a way that’s relevant and accessible,” says Bialik. Attendees will find mini-tracks focused on issues such as troubleshooting, audio for television and radio and streaming, he says, calling those “virtual crash courses.”
Previous topics, such as loud commercials versus regular programming for television, will be expanded to include streaming and radio.
New ESPN broadcast facilities in Connecticut and Qatar will also be discussed. So too, will whether it’s time to retire the MP3 protocol for streaming.
The 135th AES is Oct. 17–20 at the Javits Center in New York City.
