Mayah Helps Spread Secret Gig to a Dozen Stations

Intimate Robbie Williams show gets aired across Germany, Austria and Switzerland

About a dozen of private radio stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland carried live a Robbie Williams from Cologne on 5th March 2010.

Frankfurt-based Hit Radio FFH was in charge of the signal distribution, which was achieved using Mayah C1161 audio codecs over ISDN lines.

Since enough ISDN lines could not be ordered for the venue, Radio/Tele FFH transmitted the audio with the minimal latency back to its switching room in Bad Vilbel using three bundled ISDN lines using apt-X with 384 kbps, 48 kHz stereo.

From there, it was put to the FFH audio matrix for broadcast, as well as reëncoding in to MPEG-4 AAC LC and MPEG-1 layer II and layer III for distribution to the other stations.

“It was quite impressive to see that the C1161 is able to reach different destinations with different coding standards and easily communicate to a variety of codec brands,” said Harald Caplier, technical project manager at Radio/Tele FFH GmbH. “That was an important requirement of the project. We really wanted to let our partners use their favorite transmission format.”
