NAB Launches BroadcastUnity Site; Also Helps With TVs for Emergency Responders

The NAB said it launched www.BroadcastUnity.org to help broadcasters in hurricane relief efforts. It will provide PSAs, BroadcastUnity Day information and other resources. President/CEO Eddie Fritts said, “We encourage all broadcasters to check the site frequently for updated information, and to gather ideas from other broadcasters on what can be done for victims of this natural disaster.”
The association also has asked stations to observe Friday as BroadcastUnity Day by dedicating time at the top of each hour to air Katrina fundraising messages and to consider radiothons, telethons and telephone banks to generate money for relief.
NAB separately said it will help Louisiana and Mississippi broadcasters distribute 1,300 battery-operated, handheld TV sets to public safety officials assisting with hurricane relief. The 5-inch analog TVs also receive AM/FM; they were purchased by NAB from a vendor in St. Louis and will be distributed among state police and other public safety organizations. The Louisiana and Mississippi Associations of Broadcasters are coordinating.
