Payola Allegations Arise For Spanish-Language Radio

Payola is rampant in the Latin record and Spanish-language radio worlds according to the Miami Herald. The newspaper conducted a year-long investigation and found the practice of paying radio stations to air music adds so much to the cost of a song, between 20 to 30%, according to some former record label employees, that it cuts out smaller independent labels.
An attorney for Spanish Broadcasting System said the practice does not affect SBS and attributed the allegations to unsuccessful record labels and promoters frustrated with radio.
