Letter: Support the Graveyard Stations

Jock Elliott writes that these local AM outlets are like mom-and-pop diners

In this letter to the editor, the author comments on the story, “Digging Up the AM Radio Graveyard.” Radio World welcomes letters to the editor on this or any story. Email [email protected].

I run the “Radio Monitoring Net” Tuesday nights on a Troy, N.Y., 2-meter amateur radio repeater.

Last Tuesday, one of the participants mentioned your “Digging up the AM Graveyard” story.

I love the interactive map, and I think we should make a real effort to support those local, small, graveyard stations by letting them know that we listen.

Send a postcard or letter that says in bold letters at the top — “I Listen!” Like a reverse QSL card. I have an example at the SWLing Post.

Listening to those “locals” is like the difference between a mom-and-pop diner and a chain restaurant. The chain restaurants are fine, but the locals have their own unique charms.
