ALBANY, Ga. Strong winds have knocked a heritage AM station off the air in Albany, Ga., WALB(TV) reports.

The damage to WGPC(AM)s tower appears to have been done Jan. 2, but this was not the first time that the station has had Mother Nature wreak havoc on it. In 1940, a tornado took out the original tower, which was erected after the station was granted a license in 1933.

WGPC is currently formatted as a sports station and owned by Cumulus Media. It had broadcast on 1450 MHz.
