ABA Announces Engineering Academy Dates

The radio engineering class will be held in February

The Alabama Broadcasters Association has announced the first round of classes for its 2024 ABA Engineering Academy.

The radio engineering class will be held the week of Feb. 26 – Mar. 1. The television class will be held Apr. 8 – 12. There will be another round of classes in the summer of 2024.

For the past 11 years, these free classes have offered basic engineering training for both new and seasoned engineers from across the country. According to ABA, the classes cover basic electronics, analog and digital audio, video systems (including SDI and the new SMPTE 2110), RF systems for AM, AM directional, FM and television (8VSB and ATSC 3.0).

Also included is an overview of basic station operations, EAS, FCC Rules and good engineering practices. In association with the SBE, the ABA Engineering Academy also offers attendees the opportunity to take the CBT Certification exam at the end of the week.

ABA says more than 700 students from the United States and Canada have attended these classes since the academy’s inception.

Classes are held at the ABA Training Center in Hoover, Ala., just outside of Birmingham. There is no cost for attending the class, and you can register online on the ABA website. For more information, contact the Director of the Academy Larry Wilkins at [email protected].
