The FCC staff has begun to review approximately 770 applications from those interested in owning a 100 watt low-power FM station. At 300+ applications, California had the most interested filers.
A second filing period for the next batch of states begins at the end of August. Details about how to apply should be out by the end of this month.
The first application deadline was extended a few days from June 5 to June 8 because of computer problems at the commission that delayed when staffers could see what had been filed.
Interested filers from the following states were eligible to send in the first applications: Alaska, California, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, the Mariana Islands, Maryland, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Utah.
