BE Sponsors HD Radio Training

Broadcast Electronics is getting the word out about more upcoming HD Radio training sessions.
Its engineers have been on the road informing broadcasters about digital implementation. The manufacturer said it has sponsored a dozen or so informational sessions in U.S. markets in the past 18 months, covering aspects such as the cost of conversion and the technical considerations of high- and low-level combining of analog and digital signals.
“Our goal is to educate the broadcaster, so as they prepare for HD Radio, they’ll have everything they need to make informed decisions,” said Richard Hinkle, BE director of RF engineering. Engineers answer questions and help broadcasters develop plans. Representatives of antenna manufacturers are occasional road companions who participate to offer antenna considerations.
Engineers with Infinity Radio, Bonneville, Cox Radio, Clear Channel, Jefferson-Pilot, ABC Radio and Entercom have attended BE HD Radio training sessions. More than 100 people attended the latest session, held April 6 during NAB2003, the company said.
Upcoming sessions will be held in Houston on May 21, in Washington on June 12, and in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 14.
Occasionally sponsored in cooperation with local SBE chapters or state broadcaster associations, BE’s sessions are open to broadcasters for free. E-mail John Abdnour at jabdnour@bdcast.com to sign up.
