BMI Foundation Offers Radio Broadcasting Scholarship

Calling all college radio broadcasters with a dream

The BMI Foundation is giving college students a helping hand to pursue the field of broadcast radio with the formation of the BMI Founders Award, an annual scholarship competition open to radio broadcasting students nationwide. With the goal of cultivating future innovators of broadcast radio, Broadcast Music Inc. is funding the $5,000 scholarship, which will be awarded to the best original essay entry.

All entrants must be current students at accredited U.S. colleges or universities, be between the ages of 17 and 24, and be pursuing a degree in broadcast communications or a related field. In addition to the essay response, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation and their academic record. Dan Spears, BMI’s vice president of industry relations, is serving as director of the competition. Applications are now being accepted online, with a deadline of Feb. 15, 2016. For more information visit their website.

The BMI Foundation is a nonprofit organization that encourages the creation, performance and study of American music by offering scholarships, grants and support for music education initiatives in schools and communities.
