Starting in May commercial digital broadcasting in the form of DAB+ has come to several Australian cities. Digital broadcasting infrastructure is being provided by Broadcast Australia. The core of the digital operation is Broadcast Australia’s Network Operations Centre (NOC) at Gore Hill in Sydney.
Broadcast Australia will also be the main cog for digital broadcast from Australia’s public broadcasters ABC and SBS, which will start soon as well. In March Broadcast Australia signed a 15-year deal with ABC and SBS to provide the digital infrastructure.
Broadcast Australia Engineering and Field Services Director Clive Morton said: “These are exciting times for the radio industry, with the multimedia functionality of DAB+ set to considerably enhance the listening experience.”
The cities treated to DAB+ are Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
