If radio is “theater of the mind,” who’s the playwright?
Maybe it’s you. The BBC World Service and the British Council are asking for submissions to their annual International Radio Playwriting Competition.
“Writers who are new to radio are invited to submit an original 60-minute radio play on a subject of their choice,” the organizers state. The competition is open to experienced and novice writers living outside the United Kingdom; the deadline is in April.
One award is for the best play by a writer with English as his or her first language; another is to a writer with English as a second language. The winners each receive a cash award and a trip to London to see their play recorded for broadcast. Other winners receive digital or shortwave radios. Last year about 1,000 writers submitted from 80 countries.
