Canada is allowing FM stations to use IBOC on an experimental basis.

The change is effective immediately. Radio World reported in January that Canadian regulator CRTC was reviewing digital radio options after acknowledging that the Eureka-147-based digital radio is not catching on.

Industry Canada, the government department that manages Canadian spectrum, has at the CRTC’s behest frozen applications for L-band digital radio and plans to open a public proceeding to review digital radio technology options and possibly open up L-band allocations to other uses.
