CBS Radio Chooses Ryan as SVP of Programming

Broadcaster tackles leadership for additional music stations in New York

CBS Radio upped Jim Ryan to senior vice president of programming, effective immediately. He also retains his title as program director for New York stations WCBS(FM) and WWFS(FM) as part of his contract extension.

Ryan joined CBS Radio in April 2010 as PD of WWFS(FM) and vice president of adult contemporary programming. He will also continue in the latter role, and add oversight of the division’s classic hits stations to his responsibilities as well. In June 2012, Ryan was named PD of WCBS(FM).

Before joining CBS Radio, Ryan headed Jim Ryan Media, where he advised radio stations, including market leaders in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston, and syndicated national personalities, in addition to providing Arbitron PPM analysis to clients in the talk radio industry.

From September 1996 to April 2008, Ryan worked for iHeartMedia’s WLTW(FM). During his time at the station, Ryan programmed and served as director of adult contemporary programming, went on to become VP of AC programming and was later elevated to SVP of AC programming. He also consulted for Premiere Networks syndication directed at the adult female audience, including talent such as Delilah and Casey Kasem.

Ryan also worked in Philadelphia at WBEB(FM). Additionally, he programmed and then became an equity partner in a Portland, Ore., radio property KXYQ forming an acquisition company with the band Van Halen. Ryan is a native of Long Island and later went on to work in Denver, Pittsburgh, Miami and Detroit, before his first group programming job in 1981 overseeing stations in Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida.
