CEA Anticipates 21% Jump in Holiday Spending

This year’s holiday outlook “is a merry one,” according to consumer electronics industry officials.
The Consumer Electronics Association says consumer electronics gifts will account for a quarter of all holiday gifts and that revenues will reach $21 billion this season, up approximately 21 percent.
Director of Industry Analysis Sean Wargo said consumer confidence in the economy is on the rise “and the CE industry will benefit.” Consumers are spending more on electronics than they have in the past, he said. Adult “wish list” items are MP3 players, followed by DVD players/recorders, digital cameras, laptops and PCs, televisions, video game systems, cellular phones, camcorders and HDTV.
The list of what consumers actually plan to buy is “digital cameras, cellular phones, MP3 players, video game consoles, portable CD players, carrying cases, cordless phones, additional memory for digital cameras, laptops and clock radios.”
