Chapter 20 Drops Expo This Year

Cites the challenging economy
Publish date:

For the first time in 37 years, the Pittsburgh chapter of the Society of Broadcast Engineers won't host an equipment expo.

Chair Paul Byers of WQED told members in the chapter's latest newsletter that the reason is the "challenging economy," which made it impossible to sign up enough vendors to make an expo financially possible.

"As you know, we depend on the revenue from this show to fund our monthly meetings and special programs and seminars throughout the year, so we may have to reevaluate those as well," he wrote.

Byers also asked members to share input with them about future meetings and events. The chapter's next regular meeting features "Migrating to HD Satellite Newsgathering."

A Year of Sadness and Achievement

As I conclude my first term as president of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, I find myself not only in a reflective mood, looking at the accomplishments of the passing year, but in an excited one as well, waiting with great anticipation for the challenges to come in the next term of office.
