Clear Channel Satellite Services to Close

Will stop providing satellite distribution services

Broadcaster iHeartMedia has told clients that its satellite arm, still named Clear Channel Satellite Services, will stop providing satellite distribution services to other companies.

Existing customer contracts will not be renewed, and CCSS is not accepting new customers, according to the company.

“In the coming weeks, our team will be working with the existing customers to discuss the best way for a smooth transition to a new provider. Customers with soon-expiring contracts will have the option to continue their service on a month-to-month basis until we’ve found a suitable assignee for the business,” reads a client note shared with Radio World.

When asked the reasoning for the closure, and whether this is possibly a reaction to the trend of Internet programming distribution, a spokeswoman told RW the decision to stop satellite programming distribution to outside clients was a strategic business decision.

Left unanswered was a question about potential job loss due to the change.
