Many of those celebrating World Radio Day 2016 will celebrate the role of radio throughout the world, specifically in terms of emergency and disaster situations, but the Association of International Broadcasting is choosing to celebrate a different part of the radio industry. Mainly, the business side.
AIB is publishing a souvenir book titled “The Business of Radio” to demonstrate the value of radio internationally. The book includes articles contributed by AIB members, including the BBC, Broadcasting Board of Governors, RNW Media, Radio Taiwan International and DW, to provide an insight into the radio industry.
“Radio is a major driver of economic growth and employment – both in front of and behind the microphone,” said Simon Spanswick, chief executive of AIB. “Every day, it touches the lives of billions of people, providing news, information, entertainment and education.”
“The Business of Radio” will be sent out to parliamentarians and media regulators around the world to remind them of the role radio plays in this digital age of mobile apps and social media.
World Radio Day 2016 takes place on Saturday, Feb. 13.
