CPB Funding Advances

A House subcommittee approved a fiscal 2008 money bill that includes funding for CPB.

A House subcommittee approved a fiscal 2008 money bill that includes funding for CPB.

The legislation provides CPB $420 million for fiscal 2010. As reported earlier in The Leslie Report, it includes $26.75 million for the public radio interconnection system for FY 2008.

The organization thanked the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education for the move. President/CEO Patricia Harrison said the subcommittee “had to make many difficult decisions in allocating resources, especially given today’s budgetary pressures. As such, we are especially thankful that the bill provides CPB with an advance appropriation, which affords public broadcasters a key measure of certainty in their business planning and for digital and interconnection funding, which will help public broadcasting tap the potential of digital technology.”

The House Appropriations Committee next considers the bill; the Senate is expected to look at it in late June or July, according to CPB.
