The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced a $200,000 grant to the Public Media Journalists Association in support of its Editor Corps program, designed to offer short-term editing assistance to public media newsrooms.
The announcement was made Thursday at the PMJA conference in Kansas City.
Editor Corps is designed to support staffing gaps, breaking news coverage and special projects. CPB funding subsidizes the full cost. The program uses a sliding-scale fee model to ensure affordability for stations of all sizes.

According to CPB, the two-year grant will allow PMJA to provide approximately 2,000 hours of editorial support to stations, with a particular focus on small and rural communities.
The new grant also funds the creation of a specialized training curriculum for editors, CPB said. The curriculum is aimed at helping early- and mid-career journalists transition from reporting to editing — addressing a need highlighted in a recent PMJA assessment.
Since the Editor Corps program began in 2020, CPB has contributed approximately $340,000 toward its support. The program has provided around 4,700 hours of editing assistance to approximately 60 stations in 29 states and Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1985, PMJA represents about 2,000 journalists across 135 member newsrooms nationwide.
