Delphi and Philips Develop Software Radio DSP

Royal Philips Electronics and Delphi Corp. have developed a digital tuner for vehicle entertainment systems. The companies claim the combination of Delphi Delco Electronics Systems’ expertise in digital car entertainment systems and Philips’ leadership position in Car DSPs will provide enhanced audio and radio reception in the car.
According to a statement released by the companies: “This next-generation tuner offers the listener clarity, enhanced noise suppression and reduces multipath channel effect, which provides consistent sound quality under dynamic reception conditions. The tuner chipset architecture also provides the interface required for the new digital-quality HD Radio features.”
Philips’ Car DSP, the SAF7730, enabled Delphi to develop proprietary radio software that will provide good reception through the use of advanced DSP algorithms. The SAF7730 is a single-chip DSP with several integrated DSP cores for audio and radio processing.
