Desperate Times for U.K. DAB?

Public and private broadcasters in the United Kingdom are looking for a way to accelerate the uptake of digital radio in the country.

According to a report last week in the Financial Times, public and private broadcasters in the United Kingdom are looking for a way to accelerate the uptake of digital radio in the country.

The considerations come after GCap Mediaannounced plans to refocus its operations away from DAB digital radio.

Among the options reportedly under discussion are using public monies left over from campaigns to support the digital television switchover to fund a public information campaign for DAB, as well as to subsidize the purchase DAB receivers for pensioners and other people with limited incomes.
