Emmis gets a second outlet in Chicago thanks to a deal with Bonneville. It said it signed a letter of intent to swap three Phoenix stations for WLUP(FM) in Chicago plus $70 million, which Emmis will use to pay down debt. The three stations are AMs KTAR and KMVP, plus FM station KKLT. Emmis had bought the Phoenix stations from Hearst-Argyle in 2001. It will hold onto KKFR(FM) there.
Marv Nyren from Phoenix has been named regional VP and market manager of Emmis-Chicago, replacing Chuck DuCoty, who is leaving to work with the NewRadio Group.
In addition to its new station “The Loop,” Emmis also has WKQX(FM) in Chicago.
