ERTU Upgrades AM Systems in Cairo

New transmitters, antenna support DRM 30 operation

The Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU, ????? ??????? ? ?????????? ??????) is nearing completion of the installation of two Grass Valley Thomson TMW 2050D 50 kW medium-wave digital transmitters and complementary antenna systems.

The new system upgrade the existing ERTU AM radio broadcast network in Cairo, Egypt, boosting regional coverage and providing the option for digital AM broadcasting using the DRM 30 standard.

The new transmitters and antennas are slated to be in operation during October 2009. Grass Valley engineers provided complete design, installation, commissioning and training services.

A special antenna design was required due to limited space available at the transmission site. The new systems are also designed to reduce operational and maintenance costs for the ERTU.
