EWTN Radio Launches 300th U.S. Affiliate

Cleveland station joins Catholic radio network

EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network has added its 300th affiliate station in the United States (the network also has 110 international affiliates).

St. Peter The Rock Media officially acquired the former WWMK(AM) in Cleveland on May 4, from Radio Disney Group. The station’s new call letters are WCCR (“Cleveland Catholic Radio”). The organization says this station adds another 2.4 million potential listeners to EWTN Radio’s global audience.

Parts of the Greater Cleveland area are also served during daylight hours by long-time EWTN radio affiliate WILB(AM) in Canton, Ohio.

Cleveland attorney Gerald (Jerry) Monroe serves as president of the board of directors for St. Peter The Rock Media that also includes retired NASA scientist Leo Burkardt; long-time Cleveland broadcaster Dick Russ; EWTN Director of Marketing Tom Wenzel, whose responsibility includes all of the Cleveland area; and William (Bill) Messerly, executive director of St. Gabriel Radio Inc. in Columbus, Ohio.

Additionally, Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon has gone on the record to support the station.

“These partnerships, combined with the cooperation and blessing of bishops across the U.S., has led to a growth rate of nearly 250% in the last 5 years — from 120 stations to over 400 and growing,” said EWTN Radio General Manager Dave Vacheresse.
