FCC Cancels $22,000 Fine

The FCC cancelled a $22,000 fine against Jamie Patrick Broadcasting, Ltd., licensee of KTRY(FM), Bastrop, La. The penalties stem from November of 2001, when the station was cited for failure to respond to the commission, failure to install and operate EAS equipment and failure to maintain a public inspection file. In May of 2002, Patrick responded, and stated he could not pay the fine due to financial hardship and that he was confused about the FCC rules. He also stated the station did have a public file, but it was not in the proper location on the day of the inspection, and that a homeless person who was allowed to sleep at the station manned KTRY’s EAS system.
Based on submitted financial documentation, the agency agreed Patrick cannot pay the fine and cancelled it, with an admonishment for the violations.
