FCC Opens Door to More Satellite Service

The FCC has proposed opening up the 17/24 GHz to satellite broadcasting. It seeks comment on licensing and service rules for satellites authorized to provide service to the United States in the 17/24 GHz Broadcasting Satellite Service.
The agency says the 17/24 GHz BSS service has the potential to bring a mix of video, audio, data and multimedia services to residential and business subscribers. Pubic service obligations and EAS are also on the table. (FCC Docket 06-90)
