FCC to Create Bureau for Public Safety

FCC to Create Bureau for Public Safety

At its March 17 public meeting the FCC intends to establish a Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau.
EAS would fall under the purview of the new bureau, as RWO has reported. In 2003, the commission moved EAS responsibilities out of the Enforcement Bureau and into its Office of Homeland Security.
In November, Chairman Kevin Martin announced plans to elevate the status of the OHS, one of several steps he said would help improve communications and public safety in disaster response following Hurricane Katrina.
An FCC spokesman indicated details about the bureau would be released at the meeting.
