Satellite digital radio service provider WorldSpace has reached an agreement with Italian automaker Fiat Group Automobiles to install and distribute WorldSpace receivers in Fiat automobiles for the Italian market.

WorldSpace is launching its rollout of in-car satellite radio services in Italy by year-end 2008 with the goal of expanding service across the continent.

The company is planning to offer 40 to 50 channels of commercial-free music, news, entertainment and sports programming around the clock, including a channel devoted exclusively to Fiat Group Automobiles. The Fiat channel will be used to offer both promotional and customer-assistance services.

Under the agreement, Fait will include WorldSpace satellite receivers as an option on certain models of Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia automobiles. Fiat will also offer the receivers as an aftermarket modification.

According to the Italian Ministry of Transport, in April 2007, Fiat Group Automobile brands made up about one-third of all new car sales in Italy.
