‘Frustrated Jocks’ Smyth and Smulyan Wager

Greater Media head Peter Smyth and Emmis Communications honcho Jeff Smulyan have waged a bet on the big New England Patriots/Indianapolis Colts game this weekend.

One will likely lose, but a good cause benefits.

Greater Media head Peter Smyth and Emmis Communications honcho Jeff Smulyan have waged a bet on the big New England Patriots/Indianapolis Colts game this weekend. The Pats and Colts are the NFL’s two remaining undefeated teams.

But the real winner of the annual wager will be the Broadcasters Foundation of America.

The CEO whose team loses will write a $1,000 check to benefit the organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of men and women in radio and television broadcast who find themselves in acute need.

The foundation aims to provide an anonymous safety net in cases of serious misfortune.

“It’s great when a charity can benefit from two frustrated jocks trying to prove whose team is better,” said Smyth. “I cannot think of a better organization than the Broadcasters Foundation to benefit from Jeff’s team’s loss.”

Emmis is based in Indiana, Greater Media in Massachussetts.
