HD Radios Abound at CES

HD car audio tuner prototypes from 7 manufacturers as well as 2 home radios are displayed at CES. Kenwood and Audiovox are showing 1st generation HD tuners, with kenwood predicting shipments to retailers in April or May. This particular unit can be controlled by 17 Kenwood head units and CD changer-controller head units. The target retail price is $350.
Visteon is demoing a double DIN CD receiver offered by an unnamed European automaker as a factory-installed product in calendar year 2004 for 2005 model year autos.
Kenwood plans production of an add-on tuner for the home sometime in 2003. The unit could be added onto an existing home receiver and would retail for between $400 to $500.
Alpine, and Jenson are showing in-car HD Radios that may ship by late this year. JVC and Sanyo are also showing in-dash versions of HD radios. Both are targeting 2004 for shipping to retailers.
Harmon Kardon is demoing a home receiver with an integrated HD Radio. It plans fall shipment with a list price of around $2,000.
