Emmis station WQHT(FM) in New York said it is the first radio station in the country to offer listeners a chance to buy event tickets entirely by cell phone text messaging.
The station said the ticketing system is offered in a partnership with ShopText Inc., which offers secure transactions via text messaging. The first use of the system will be to sell tickets for the “Funkmaster Flex & Mr. Cee Midnight Birthday Cruise” on Aug. 10. Listeners with a credit or debit card will be able to purchase tickets using a text-enabled phone by texting “PARTY” to “467467.”
