IEEE Broadcast Symposium in October

Plenty of grist to mill for radio broadcast engineers

The IEEE’s 2014 Broadcast Symposium, Oct. 15–17, San Antonio, is just around the corner. Not surprisingly it has plenty of sessions and informative events that would interest radio broadcast engineers.

Starting on Oct. 15, Tom Silliman of antenna and tower builder ERI keynotes a lunch, discussing tower safety. That will be followed by a tutorial, “RF Exposure Safety Standards, Practices and Regulations.”

Thursday, Oct. 16, will feature “Advanced Radio Transmission Systems,” overseen by the NAB’s David Layer. Presenters include Layer, Branimir Vocjic and Roz Clark. Also on Thursday, “Green Energy for Broadcast” has Roz Clark, Tim Anderson of GatesAir, Cris Alexander and Ben Dawson making appearances.

Oct. 17 sees “Advanced Technology Update for Broadcast Facilities,” chaired by Paul Shulins. Presenters include Al Salci of SAS, Greg Shay of the Telos Alliance, Junius Kim of GatesAir, Tony Peterle of WorldCast Systems and Leif Claesson of Omnia Audio.
